updating in progress

Yes folks, your eyes do not deceive you! You are ACTUALLY reading a post that is recent. Sorry for the lack of comms as I do not have internet at our house because BT sucks! And oh SKY does SUCK too. It's been three weeks and BT STILL have not fixed our phone line which they thought was working but is not. How many phone calls do we have to make to get the blinking line fixed!!! Without our Bt line we can't have broadband and our full sky package!! ANNA-OYING!!!

So I have moved house, moved in with three other people. Oliver, Rhys and Steph. All is going well and we have our housewarming on Saturday, which also happens to be the world cup final. So we having a housewarming slash world cup final. England are in it, how i don't know but so are South Africa, and as much as I don't like both countries my support lies with the Southern hemisphere country that is SA! So come on the BOKS!

Work we are rebranding at the moment. The task is turning out to be bigger than I thought and so there are days where I stare at the screen not knowing what to do as I don't know where to stop but it's all good. Jancie (also known as Janice :0) keeps me entertained which is good, is nice having someone to laugh with (and at :-D) makes work time go faster and more enjoyable. Here are some funny photos of her that she will probably kill me for putting up but hey! here are some funny office pics!
The day Janice was craving sushi, so we went to the golden mountain for lunch!! ahah
1000 to fold - hi ho hi ho it's folding off we go! :-D
Cool dude steve!! ahahahh
Janc think you have something on your face!

Right last quick one. I HAVE A NEW NEPHEW!! His name is Taurai. Here's a picture of the two little munchkins! So Swet. Right so I must go but will try to keep you updated!! and will add photos!!

P.S Miss Lippett is back in town! Saw her briefly at church and gonna have a good catch up but WELCOME BACK NAE!!

Really?!

Tom Baldwin in Washington

Rock crushes scissors, scissors cut paper and paper covers rock. But nothing beats an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas and a shot at winning $50,000.

What was once a game to settle playground disputes has grown up to be on the verge of recognition as a global sport, with this year’s finals of the USA Rock Paper Scissors Tournament bringing together more than 300 contestants from all over America.

Matti Leshem, the national league’s self-styled commissioner, has already petitioned the International Olympic Committee to make it an event. Now he wants to bring “the greatest competition ever to sweep the USA” to Britain.

“I’m in talks with broadcasters in your country. I’ve a sneaking feeling that you guys will be good at it,” he said yesterday. “Some of your young people are quite athletic.”

Nor does his ambition for RPS, as he calls it, stop there.

“This is a sport which creates harmony – we should get out of Iraq and start throwing RPS instead. I want to set up the RPS Foundation which promotes this sport as a simple method of conflict resolution.”

Sunday night’s final was the culmination of more than 300 regional heats involving, said Mr Lesham, “hundreds of thousands of people”, all of whom beat their fists twice in the air (three times in Britain) before revealing one of the symbols.

The $50,000 prize went to Jaime Langridge, a Texas nurse.

Paramedics were on hand in case of “wrist or shoulder dislocations” while each bout took place under the careful gaze of trained referees. Fouls include the vertical paper throw, known as “the handshake”, deemed illegal because it resembles scissors – as well as the horizontal scissors throw, outlawed for the opposite reason.

More legitimate techniques include “cloaking” – concealing your choice until the last possible second – or “shadowing”, where players pretend to choose one symbol and then change at the last second. Some players use special fingerless RPS gloves.

“A lot of people tried to cheat. They throw early and then roll their hands,” said Mr Leshem, 44, a Hollywood producer who clearly understands the value of hype. “We had the world’s greatest RPS referee in Phil Gordon [a well-known poker player] and he made some big calls. There was a lot of controversy, but we went back on the videotape and he got it right every time.”

The USARPS league is burgeoning largely because of its sponsorship from Bud Light, which sees it as the perfect bar-side competition.

RPS is beginning to creep into other parts of American life. Last year a federal judge in Florida settled a case by ordering the two sides to play RPS.

And when Takashi Hashiyama, a Japanese executive, could not decide where to auction his firm’s collection of Impressionist paintings, he told the US divisions of Christie’s and Sotheby’s to match off in similar fashion, saying: “This is the best way to decide between two things which are equally good.”

Mr Leshem is scathing however, about a rival organisation – the long-established World Rock Paper Scissors Society.

“They try to claim the sport was invented in Britain! RPS has been around for centuries. They even played in Stone Age times – but then it was known as Rock, Rock, Rock.”

Hand signals

In a three shoot game, there are 27 variations, but these gambits - the “great eight” - have become famous

Avalanche: Rock-Rock-Rock. A “devastating offensive manoeuvre, which requires bravado bordering on recklessness to execute”.

The Bureaucrat: Paper-Paper-Paper. Formerly known as Confetti, “the deadpan delivery is the ultimate in passive-aggressive play”.

The Crescendo: Paper-Scissors-Rock. “Slow-building gambit” with the devastating rock delivering a “coup de grâce”.

Dénouement: Rock-Scissors-Paper. “Uses a cooling-down approach - when used in tandem with the Crescendo the result is often a baffled opponent.”

Fistful o’ dollars: Rock-Paper-Paper. “The rapid switch from offensive to defensive play can force an opponent into a vulnerable spot.”

Paper dolls: Paper-Scissors-Scissors. “An extremely effective gambit against the unwary”.

Scissor sandwich: Paper-Scissors-Paper. “Its main purpose is to unsettle the opponent through use of the concealed scissors”.

Toolbox: Scissors-Scissors-Scissors. “Requires steady hands and steely nerves. Given the puerile popularity of Rock, this gambit is not suggested for use against beginners.”

What is one to do?

When the country you were born and love, is disintegrating in front of your eyes.....
When everytime you look at the news about Africa, Zimbabwe is in the headlines (not for something good)......
When inflation is 3000% (highest in the world).......
When there are so many people starving to death....
When there is only power for 4 hours a day in the whole country.......
When you are far away from your family who still live in the country.....

What is one to do?..........................
Pray!

Manchester United (and me) in 7th Heaven!

So ya Hi me again. It has been 9 days since my last post. Remember when I said that I would post more regularly?! Well I lied! hahaha Anyway so Happy late Easter! Hope it was a good one! I went down to Exter and hung out with my friend Lily! Was awesome. We went out in Exter, went to Budleigh (spelling?), then to Exmouth and hung out with Lily's family! I had a really good time! Was Awesome actually! AND it was sunny the WHOLE TIME I was there so wore my board shorts much tbout all the time, although the night times were pretty chilly.

Here are a couple of pics wil put the rest on my flickr account. Theres Exmouth sunset. Lily, laura, myself. Lilly and Katryn. And Lily and me.

Then yesterday I went round to the awesome Clays house! We watched Manchester United absolutely demolish Roma. 7-1 and the seven goals weren't regular goals either and to be fair the Roma goal was pretty spectacular to!! the goals just kept coming! Anne and I were talking bout the game before it started just saying how we were pretty nervous as it was a tough game last week. But Man U turned up and boy did they show Roma!! Was a really good evening. Anne cooked an awesome meal and as usual the evening was filled loads of laughs, I do love hanging out with the Clays!

I'm still on Easter holidays we go back to uni on the 23rd but got work to do in the mean time!

Not fallen off the face of the earth

Okay so maybe some you might think that I have fallen off the face of the face of the earth, but I actually haven't ALTHOUGH I was tempted to jump many a time when I was trying to get my dissertation done. It seems a distant memory but this time last week I was running on 3 hours sleep as I had stayed up till 5 in the morn finishing off the diss. But that's all in and we are on our Easter break. It's not really a break as we have work to do but it's nice having a deadline that is far away!

So what has Miss Mud been up to the last month?! WORK, WORK, WORK. I'm sure many will chuckle when they read my name and work in the same sentence as it is a very rare occasion that this happens or that I do any work! But yes it IS true! I DO work (sometimes!) :-)

I turned 23 last month! Crazy I tell you. It was a really good day. My friends and I went out as mexicans, sombreros, ponchos and all here are a few pics. Theres one with the gang, one with Jon my housmate, Helen and myself, and one with Matt my housemate as Nacho Libre in his recreational clothes! (if you have watched Nacho Libre your missing out!! NAAACCHHO!)

So that was cool and then from my small group I got an awesome present! A personalised Manchester United shirt!! Was awesome! With the number 23 on my back. I was like 'ah awesome you got 23 thats my hockey number! Then it dawned on me that it was ALSO the age I had turned!! DOH!

So I have just been watching cricket world cup and filling my days with nothing. So its all good. I'm going down to Exeter for Easter will be good to hang out with my friend Lily. I went to the station to buy my train ticket and on my way back got onto the bus (big mistake) The bus driver was like, actually he was a driver from hell. He was roaring round the bus route. I was standing which made it even worse as i had to grip for dear life and he did his wheelies (not really but it felt like he was trying) round the round about! What made me laugh though was when we were approaching a bus stop he sped up and then screeched to a halt having past the bus stop like 100 meters behind and opened the doors to let people in. He proceeded to cut out the bus engine because he stopped so quickly!! I was so glad when i stepped off the bus. As always i said thank you!....(and under my breathe i sed)..... for not killing me!! haha was funny!

otherwise that me. If I haven't spoe to you sorry..send me a rude email or phone call and will defo get back to you! :-D Will prob be posting more regularly! Don't hold your breathe though as you may pass out!

Oh ya one more thing found out today that my brother and his wife and my little nephew are expanding their family and there will soon be a new addition to the fam. So I will have a new little nephew or neice! Awesome. Congrats to them.

In shock

So i log into msn and a msg comes up and it's my friend Kelly, she's like "MUDZ!! So glad you logged! I'm thinking huh? When did Lana get engaged?"

This is crazy was only home in January and she wasn't engaged!! I mean i have one friend who has been married for ages. But we always knew she was going to be the first. You know when your at school and you go round the group guessing what everyone will be doing in like 10/20 years? Well bernice was the married first girl!

Then found out just recently that my friend Kirsty got married last year! ( you probably thinking well she must not really be your friend, coz she would have told you!! :-) ahahaha no kidding i KNEW she was engaged, just not married!

I guess I am growing up, friends (my age) getting married and engaged left right and center!! CRAZY i tell you........sorry still in shock from news!!

Top snow tip

It works a treat!!
Other snow pics on my Flickr account

More now pics

Here we are in our HI-VIZ jackets sitting on Cindy!!!
Alice is directing Cindy that she wants to go THAT-A-WAY!!.......

Top of the hill....CINDY is formed

We climbed up this slippery road to get to the hill. Oli and Alice went sledging, i couldn't walk anymore i died from the previous one so i was determined to build a snow man. I was gonna build Chris Moyles from radio 1 but Alice came up with a Genius idea and we built a SNOW CHICKEN!! OH YES you read right!! check it out!!

Stage 1

Stage 2 (body and head formed!)

Stage 3 - Here you have it!! Our very own SNOW CHICKEN.......we christened it CINDY!

What's going on?

Okay so I haven't posted in a very long time!! (just thought i would state the obvious, as you probably have noticed that i haven't posted in a long time!?)

Okay so what HAS been going on? Well last week friday and thursday, i went to work for Owen! It was awesome and pretty cool 'going to work" everyday! Had to be ready for 8!! It felt like i was walking through a thick mud pool, that was me for the first half an hour before i actually got myself together and was alert. Unfortunately i'm did not manage to go to work this week, only for one day because it suddenly ( well not really but i like to think it was sudden) that I have a dissertation due in just over 2 and a half weeks!! (If you are a kind soul and like writing essays, please let me know and will gladly give you work!)

What else well we had a SNOW DAY...........on the day i had decided to sit down and work on my dissertation.........it had to SNOW??? So the diss went out the window and Oli, Alice and myself went sledging. We first went to Cleeve hill but that was FULL of people so went to prestbury and were the only people on the hill!!

Here are funny things that happened before we even got to hill.....
1. Oli tried to drive up the slippery, muddy slope and nearly grounded his car on a hump
2. Us getting ready and Alice saying "Oli your car IS MOVING!!!" It was the funniest ever. We were outside the car and his car started sliding away Oli ran and grabbed the boot to stop it. The funny thing was the handbrake was on so it was the ice melting under his tires!! (ahhahaa we joked that when his car would be in Cleeve by the time we came back from playing in the snow because it would have slid away!!

"Formula forecasts sadness on Jan. 23"

My housemate told me about this but i didn't believe her and so i went to my reliable and always ready keeper of all knowledge (Google) and looked it up and the first article i stumbled upon was this one.......

"Oh, woe is us -- the gloomiest time of the year is looming dead ahead. Stay under the covers and wallow in comfort food on Monday, Jan. 23 -- it's the most melancholy day on the entire calendar, at least said a British psychologist who backs his claims with a scientific formula.
Forget the Ides of March. Beware [W + (D-d)] x TQM x NA, cautions Cliff Arnall of the University of Cardiff in Wales.
"The formula uses six immediately identifiable factors: weather, debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year's resolution, low motivational levels and feeling a need to take action," he said yesterday..............."

If you wanna read the rest of the article heres the url (sorry don't know how to post it as a link as i am bit slow :-)
http://washingtontimes.com/national/20060109-115631-4762r.htm

I am assuming that this day is tuesday 23 for 2007. I hope your Tuesday is anything but gloomy! Try stay warm, as it is going to be very very very cold!!!

You will however be happy to know that we have only got 164 days to go. The happiest day is Friday, June 23 this year!

Question?

Why is it that people have the power or are able to make you question who you as a person, and make you unsure of yourself?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Arsenal 2-1 Man Utd

New toy

So the door bell rung.....well it was actually a knock on the door because we don't actually have a door bell. But i got a new toy in the post. My dear brother bought me an A3 printer. For those who are in graphics this is a very exciting thing and for those who aren't, this printer will basically let me print out big peices of work that are bigger than A4.

It is a bit of a danger because when i did not have a printer i used to wake up early, got to uni and work and print off stuff there but now i ACTUALLY don't have to leave the house!!! Going to have to be very very disciplined!!!!

Anyway so here it is in all its splendour!!! My Canon Pixma IX5000 and yes it does take up A LOT of space on my desk...try 3/4 of the desk! :-D

What's that i see

So i've been back from in England for.........(just counting the days).....6 days it is and things are going swimmingly. I've been into uni for a 45 minute tutorial and that's it for the next week because our tutor is away next week so dont have to go into uni!! Crazy i tell you, also we have an extra week for our project which actually has to be the best thing ever!!

I've just got back from Mel's house. Went over for pizza with Ruth, Janine and Helen. The evening was filled with so many belly aching laughs and tear laughs. It was such a fun evening but on the other hand it was also a sad goobye evening (or a see you soon evening) because Mel is off to Australia on Tuesday which really sucks!! Am really going to miss her!
It is funny, i have been saying goodbyes for a while now to many a friend who have moved away. You think it would get easier, but it doesn't.

This got me thinking to how i used to think about the past and wished i had done things differently, spent more time with family and friends. But we all know you can't change the past (if you do know....share the secret :-) and so i am appreciating NOW more than ever! Like the vodafone strapline...."make the most of now." Also with my degree nearly coming to an end, i am just realising how important NOW is! Enjoying where you are in life, enjoying the friends you have in your life now and just enjoying! Whether all this thinking is me growing up or just a thought i don't know but if it is growing up i look forward to the rest of 2007 and growing up more......

Blog-Tagged

I have been meaning to update my blog for a very long time and Owen gave me a reason to do so he blog-tagged me.

"The object of the game is to reveal 5 things about you, which most readers probably don't know, then nominate 5 friends to do the same."

Thing number 1
I wore braces (on my teeth not suspenders on my trousers) for 7 years of my life. My teeth were really messed up when i was little and so the dentist had to cut out my last milk tooth that was hanging on for dear life, to make space for my permanent teeth. I wore a retainer in junior school (which i lost many a time in the pool) then proceeded to wear railway tracks in high school (all i can remember was the pain when the orthodontist would tighten them!!). I still wear a retainer to bed to keep my teeth straight!

Thing number 2
When i was 12 we had a guard dog that we only used to let out at night after everyone was home. And the one night it was let out early. I came home (in zim), got out of the car and the dog came for me....i remember standing then suddenly being on the ground. I was rushed to hospital and the wound was bound. Then i came to visit my sister, who was at Bristol university at the time when my wound went funny, i was rushed to hospital in Bristol where they had to operate on me. I had dead skin tissue so my wound wasnt healing. Thye left me with a mssive scar and 12 massive stitches on my leg! All of this happened over Christmas day!

Thing nmber 3
Now this one is a very recent one. i used to hate gerkins but during the summer when i was visiting my brother i was watching the food network and a programme came on tv, on how gerkins are made! THEY ARE JUST pickled BABY CUCUMBERS!! i SO didn't know that till i watched the programme! Now i like gerkins! hahaha

Thing number 4
I can play the harmonica. Is it geeky? well some people might say it is but i dont think so :-) I am trying to teach myself how to play the blues!

Thing number 5
I have six toes on one foot! Grosse hey! ahahh KIDDING!! (i'm struggling to think of the last thing people won't know about me! )
Oh okay here's one. Out of my siblings (two older sisters and two older brothers) I was the only child born in Zimbabwe. Although we all live in Zimbabwe now. My family lived in Zambia for a while before i was born then moved to Zimbabwe in 1983 then i came into the world in !984!

There we have it folks, hopefully 5 intresting facts you did not know about me.
I now have to struggle as i dont actually have 5 other people to tag so will do as man as i can think of!!

I Blog-Tagg: STEVE CLARKE, JESS, DAN, and any other two people that re reading this and have a blog!!
